About the Artist ↓

Adi T. Hoffman is an Israeli artist living and working in Tel Aviv. Her practice is rooted in painting and drawing and extends to sculpture, installation, collage, and digital processes. Her work explores the transience and vulnerability of the human body, transformation, and the relationship between organic forms and constructed systems. Drawing often serves as the starting point of Hoffman’s practice, with intuitive sketches developing into paintings, sculptures, video, and installations. Across these media, she examines states of fragility, injury, support, and repair, and the ways external structures can sustain and reshape the body. Hoffman studied at the San Francisco Studio School and HIT - Holon Institute of Technology, and studied figurative painting with Aram Gershuni and Ran Tenenbaum. Her projects include the solo exhibition Bardo at Binyamin Gallery, Tel Aviv (2024), accompanied by the artist’s book Bardo, and the duo exhibition Clinic at Litvak Contemporary Gallery, Tel Aviv (2024). Her work has also been presented at Zumu - Museum on the Move, Beit Hankin - Multidisciplinary Gallery, and Fresh Paint Art Fair. She is a member of Binyamin Cooperative Gallery in Tel Aviv.

Exhibition Statement

Bardo explores a prolonged intermediate state between life and death. The exhibition developed from a personal sketchbook created by Adi T. Hoffman during time spent with her father at Sheba Tel-Hashomer Hospital, where she drew wheelchairs, medical equipment, bones, skulls, and hospital beds in black charcoal. These drawings were later transformed across different media, including painting, video, and sculptural objects. The exhibition draws on the idea of the Bardo Thodol, or Tibetan Book of the Dead, and considers transience, mourning, transformation, and rebirth.
