Michael (Mikheil) Makharadze is a Georgian contemporary artist based in Batumi whose practice combines painting with philosophical and conceptual inquiry. He studied philosophy at Shota Rustaveli State University in Batumi from 2013 to 2018 before turning his primary focus to art. Makharadze’s work explores the human condition through themes of identity, belief, memory, absurdity, and the search for meaning. Drawing on archetypal figures, mythology, existential philosophy, and contemporary urban experience, he creates symbolic narratives in which personal experience intersects with broader questions of existence and perception. Since 2017, Makharadze has participated in exhibitions in Georgia and internationally. His solo exhibitions include *Reflection* (2019), *Seeing the Sun* (2023), and *Blue of Thought* (2026), presented in Batumi.
View Full Artist Catalogue →Blue of Thought is an intimate yet cosmic series exploring the inner experience of contemporary life within a mytho-technological reality. The series brings together Batumi's urban landscape, particularly its Soviet-era panel buildings, with childhood memories and a mythologized, magical world. At its center is a crisis of faith experienced by an individual caught between the routine of urban life and rapid technological progress. Here, faith extends beyond religion to encompass belief in human potential, agency, and hope for the future. A recurring angel figure, combining intellect and intuitive power, inhabits a symbolic world that takes on the force of physical reality. The series reflects on human fragility in the face of an infinite universe, where beings and ideas created by the human mind can acquire autonomy and even become threats to their creator. Blue of Thought becomes a journey through the labyrinths of the mind, searching for the strength to navigate contemporary ethical and spiritual crises within a poetic, transcendent world.
