David Nipo (born, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is an Israeli painter known for his commitment to observational painting and contemporary figurative realism. He immigrated to Israel in 1969 and worked as a scenic artist in the Israeli film industry between 1983 and 1997 before dedicating himself fully to painting. Largely self-taught, Nipo studied at the Jerusalem Studio School under Israel Hershberg from 1997 to 1999. In 2005, together with Aram Gershuni, he founded Hatahana Studio for Figurative Painting and Drawing in Tel Aviv, where he has continued to teach and mentor artists. He has also taught at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and Sapir College. Working primarily from direct observation, Nipo's paintings focus on still life, landscape, and portraiture. His practice is grounded in the belief that art reveals aspects of a shared human truth through individual experience, making artistic creation both a personal and ethical act. Nipo's work has been exhibited extensively in Israel and internationally, including at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Ashdod Art Museum, and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. In 2013, he was awarded the Haim Shiff Prize for Figurative Realist Art.
