Odinakachi Okoroafor is a mixed-media artist based in Enugu whose work explores identity, memory, migration, and the psychological traces carried within the human body. Combining painting, silkscreen, and intricate linear structures inspired by barcodes, lace patterns, and palm markings, he has developed a visual language that moves between the technological and the deeply personal. Drawing from experiences rooted in childhood, community, and contemporary Nigerian life, Okoroafor examines the Black figure as both an individual presence and a historical vessel. His layered surfaces often evoke coded systems, scars, fingerprints, or woven textiles, visual structures that reflect the tension between humanity and systems of classification, commodification, and control. Influenced by both Igbo cultural thought and contemporary urban realities, his works navigate themes of endurance, displacement, spirituality, and collective memory. Through repetition, rhythm, and delicate mark-making, Okoroafor creates paintings that feel simultaneously intimate and monumental, images suspended between vulnerability and resilience. Okoroafor has exhibited internationally, including exhibitions in Nigeria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy, and the United States. His work has been presented by institutions and galleries including Kutlesa Gallery, Christie’s New York, Ross-Sutton Gallery, and WOPART Lugano.
