Tove Jansson — The Windows of the Atelier
Painted in 1965, The Windows of the Atelier offers an intimate view of Tove Jansson's studio at Ullanlinnankatu 1 in Helsinki. The work brings together the studio's tall arched windows, neighbouring rooftops, a familiar Vienna chair and a sculpted figure, reflecting both the personal importance of the space and Jansson's increasingly large-scale and abstract painting of the 1960s. Offered by Bukowskis in its Helsinki Spring Sale in May 2023, the painting sold for €383,800, setting a new world auction record for the artist.
