Biography
Aya Eman Abdelbaqi (b. 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, printmaking, cyanotype, installation, and other media. Her decision to study art emerged from a need to process complex physical and emotional experiences and give them material form, particularly her experiences of high-risk pregnancies and the transition to motherhood.
Her work moves between the clinical, sterile world of needles, sensors, scans, and medical equipment and the emotional and sensory memories carried by the body. Through material, image, and space, Abdelbaqi explores the maternal female body as a dynamic site of continual transformation—a space of vulnerability, resilience, fragmentation, memory, and recovery.
