What the Body Remembers
Aya Eman Abdelbaqi · 2026

Artist Statement
My works explore the body as a space of memory and transformation. I consider the ways in which the female-maternal body carries within it traces of ongoing experiences—physical and emotional—and the relationships between vulnerability, control, endurance, and everyday coping.
Through painting, printmaking, and other techniques, I create layers, erasures, cracks, and traces of repeated actions. The working processes themselves become part of the image, like an attempt to map a body that is in a constant state of change.
The works move between the personal and the collective, and between the intimate and the material. They propose a way of looking at the body not as a stable and complete object, but as a space that is repeatedly constructed and dismantled.
