Before It All

Artist Statement

The work unfolds a story that begins with home. It is not a home made of walls, but a structure composed of memories. The distance from it is not measured in kilometres, but in an absence that accumulates in the heart. In an abandoned space, between walls that have absorbed silence, I set an old newspaper alight. The light of the fire brings back lost moments, voices left behind, and desires that had gone out. Behind the flame appear vivid memories that were once full and are now only a distant echo. As the light spreads, I discover that even within loss there is movement. The memories continue to pulse within me, sometimes quietly, sometimes as a cry. They insist on surviving, on finding a new place for themselves, even if the original home no longer exists. The work is a descent into what I have lost, what remains, and what will always continue to accompany me even when I am far away. It is an attempt to gather the fragments, not in order to return them to their original place, but to understand the new form they create. Between ash and light, I find myself being rebuilt—slowly and carefully—from the echo of the home that was and the promise of the home that is yet to be created.
