Through the exhibition, I undertake a journey of farewell from my grandfather and conduct an incomplete dialogue with him, grounded in memory, love, and longing. The works attempt to come to terms with the separation while at the same time preserving a sense of movement and making his presence felt, even though he is no longer here. The process began unconsciously and gradually became more deliberate and focused. It started with old photographs in which I searched for his image, and continued through albums and folders in the study, and through a physical return to his architectural office in Beit HaKerem. The acts of making and searching bring him closer to me, while at the same time continuing to echo the distance that exists between us. In the exhibition, I trace objects from my grandfather's room. Like a slow process of working through loss, I redraw the green window bars, the tools that lay on his desk, and the cardboard architectural models he created during his studies. The printmaking medium in which I work requires an indirect process involving many stages and transfers from one material to another, recalling the dismantling and reconstruction of memory. The material process becomes a kind of two-voiced monologue with my grandfather, within an elusive space between the visible and the hidden, between calculated and precise action and creation that emerges in an intuitive moment.
